The bandana comes from the Indian subcontinent, from where it first came to Spain, where it was worn by vaqueros, and then to America, where it was used by cowboys. Both vaqueros and cowboy can be translated into Russian as a shepherd or cattle breeder. It was a very practical headdress that could be quickly put on the face to cover the nose and mouth from the dust clouds raised by cattle during the drive.

Currently, in some cases, they are used in the equipment of special forces units of the military intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
