Russian crime action series МЕЧ (Sword), released in 2009.

The story follows Maxim Kalinin, a former Russian paratrooper who loses his job in the police after refusing to accept corruption.

Disappointed with the justice system, he puts together a secret group of former soldiers and law enforcement officers called Sword (Меч).

Their mission is simple: hunt down criminals who escaped punishment through money, corruption and connections.

What follows is 25 episodes of shootouts, organised crime, corrupt officials and vigilante justice on the streets of Moscow.

A proper piece of late-2000s Russian crime television, with plenty of action and questionable decisions.

Complete first season — 25 episodes.
