A beautiful and rather unusual Russian officer's uniform jacket, possibly dating from the final years of the Soviet Union or the early Russian Federation.
And had some change and updates along it's way.
Made from very heavy, rugged dark navy fabric, this is a proper old-fashioned uniform jacket
. Not your average lightweight service clothing, but a thick and sturdy piece with a surprisingly impressive appearance.
The jacket features olive-green shoulder boards with red piping, three golden rank stars and circular service emblems associated with Russian emergency (EMERCOM) services.
Both sleeves are decorated with four golden embroidered stripes and a five-pointed star above them.
A little history
EMERCOM, better known in Russia as МЧС (Ministry of Emergency Situations), developed during the collapse of the Soviet Union and became responsible for civil defence, firefighting, rescue operations and disaster response throughout the Russian Federation.
Its various services inherited many traditions from Soviet military and uniformed organisations.
This jacket appears to be an older, privately purchased uniform piece, obtained through a military clothing shop rather than directly issued. Such uniforms could be individually purchased and worn by personnel, although the original owner and exact service history of this particular example remain unknown.
The combination of its traditional construction, unusual shoulder boards and elaborate sleeve embroidery makes it a particularly interesting piece.
Who originally wore it, where it served and how it ended up here remains a mystery.
Details & Condition
The jacket features four front pockets, golden uniform buttons, a high fastening collar and a fully lined interior.
The exterior remains in nice vintage condition, with the gold insignia still presenting beautifully.
There is some damage to the interior lining:
- The lining inside the right sleeve has come slightly loose.
- One small hole is present inside the jacket.
- General signs of age and previous handling.
These imperfections are mainly internal and do not significantly affect the jacket's exterior appearance.
A beautiful and rather mysterious piece of late Soviet / early Russian uniform history. Heavy, well-made and certainly not something you come across every day.
