Issued Soviet Armed Forces Dog Tag ВС СССР

Origin: Soviet Union — USSR
State: Original vintage
Material: Metal
Markings: ВС СССР + personal identification number
Era: Soviet period

ВС СССР stands for Вооружённые Силы СССР—“Armed Forces of the USSR.” The number beneath it served as a personal identifier, linking the tag to military personnel records.

Known in Russian as a личный жетон, or personal identification tag, this type is documented in museum collections as an officer’s identification badge. Its purpose was straightforward: identifying its owner, rather than displaying rank, regiment or an impressive list of achievements.

Soviet administration, reduced to something that fits in your pocket.

A distinctive addition to a Soviet militaria collection or Cold War equipment display.

The original owner and individual service history are unknown (for the buyer).

Price is for one identification tag.
