Released in 1991, Moskovskaya Propiska : “Moscow Registration” captures Kombinatsiya at their best.
With Alyona Apina and Tatyana Ivanova at the microphones, the Saratov group turned everyday dreams, cheeky humour and big choruses into national pop hits.
There is not a single person I know that (even if asked they will say the hate this group) still start yelling along to one of their songs.
It's classic and common every day pop music about slight cheeky stuff.
An American boyfriend. A Moscow address. An accountant who might actually know where the money went... ambitions are clear.
-
American Boy: the foreign-boyfriend fantasy with the chorus you came for.
-
Bukhgalter / Бухгалтер: “Accountant.” Ordinary office work somehow becomes romantic.
-
Moskovskaya Propiska / Московская прописка: the title track.
The backdrop was darker than the choruses: co-founder and producer Alexander Shishinin, a former policeman, was stabbed to death in the stairwell of his appartment Moscow in 1993.
That is part of the band’s history, alongside the bright clothes and television hits.
Although no official arrest ever made everybody know's it was the music mafia.
And yes..Moscow first years after USSR collapse everything had it's own mafia..
Why this one belongs on your shelf: two of Kombinatsiya’s best known songs on one album.
