Mikhail Krug – Zhigan-Limon | Russian Chanson Music CD

Origin: Mixed
Album era: 1994
Tracks: 14, including two extra songs
Genre: Russian chanson

Zhigan-Limon was Krug’s 1994 breakthrough, helping establish the Tver singer as one of Russian chanson’s defining voices. His deep baritone carries prison stories, bruised romance and street slang with the charismatic face.

Start with:

• Kolshchik — Кольщик: the tattooist song and one of his signature recordings.

• Devochka-Pai — Девочка-пай: “Good Girl.” A classic Krug number.

• Elektrichka — Электричка: the commuter train gets its own chanson treatment.

• Zhigan-Limon — Жиган-лимон: the title track.

This edition’s fourteen-track programme includes Svetochka and Den Kak Den as the two extra songs shown on the back cover.

Krug never served a prison sentence, despite the world his songs describe. He worked on “Kolshchik” for three years. In 2002, he was fatally shot during an attack at his home in Tver.
