Iraqi songs, driving dance rhythms and voices from another era. Sword of Baghdad / Sayf Baghdad brings together familiar melodies, patriotic anthems and historical speech excerpts in one illustrated CD release.

The selection brings together Iraqi voices including Nazem al-Ghazali and Kadim Al Sahir, alongside patriotic songs, dabke and excerpts from Saddam Hussein’s speeches. It moves between everyday musical culture and the much louder world of public ceremonies and political broadcasts.
