These are original Soviet circulation coins from the monetary system introduced in 1961 and used until the final year of the USSR in 1991.
Rather than commemorative or presentation pieces, these were ordinary coins intended to be spent every day.
The classic design is unmistakably Soviet: the USSR state emblem with hammer and sickle, rising sun and wheat wreath on one side, and the denomination framed by wheat on the other.
The lower denominations have the familiar yellow-gold appearance of Soviet manganese-brass coinage, while the 10, 15 and 20 Kopeck pieces use the lighter nickel-brass composition.
Fun detail: the denominations form a wonderfully Soviet-looking sequence 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 Kopecks. The 3 and 15 Kopeck coins in particular feel unusual today, but were perfectly normal denominations in Soviet daily life.
These are genuine circulated coins, not selected high-grade collector pieces. Dates are mixed and each coin has actually seen use. Expect scratches, oxidation, discoloration, worn details and other signs of circulation. Exact year supplied will vary.
