"Bashkortostan" originates from the Bashkir group. Though Turkic in root (a combination of 'baş', meaning head or chief, and "qurt", sacred animal to Turkic peoples), the suffix -stan is Persian, common to various Eurasian territorial names. Bashkirs use the Bashkir language, part of the Kipchak branch in the Turkic language family.
Like all Republic's listed. The short and sweet about Bashkortostan..isn't short or sweet. But like again the other Republic's many claim their's is the most beautifull.
